Background & Scope
The Melbourne Holocaust Museum serves as an education centre and museum housing eyewitness testimonies, historical documents, and survivor artefacts. The permanent exhibition integrates personal photographs, testimonies, and physical items into an immersive narrative display detailing individual survivor histories.
To display these irreplaceable artefacts with the graphic and wall-mounted layout, the exhibition curators brought in European Museum Technology. The project included designing, making, and installing six wall-mounted museum showcases. This involved four recessed cavity cases and two surface-mounted glass hoods, placed next to graphic elements, historical photos, and archival documents.
Structural Fabrication & Security Engineering
Fabricated at EMT’s Braeside manufacturing facility, the display units feature custom steel frames engineered to support both recessed wall cavity installations and projecting glass hoods. Despite their compact scale, each case incorporates reinforced steel mounting plates fastened directly to the primary wall structure to prevent physical deflection and ensure long-term load stability.
Conservation Sealing & Fastener Details
To protect delicate paper documents, photographs, and historical artefacts from atmospheric degradation and particulate ingress, EMT engineered custom perimeter seals throughout the frame assemblies. The glass hoods and cavity enclosures are locked using concealed security screws, ensuring physical containment while maintaining clean perimeter profiles that integrate seamlessly into the surrounding exhibition graphics.
