Custom-built Display Case for Golden Skateboard NFT

Precision rotating showcase engineered for a rare physical-digital collectable at The Whisky Thief

European Museum Technology designed and fabricated a custom rotating display case to securely present an Azuki Golden Skateboard NFT above the entry staircase at The Whisky Thief in Sydney.

Background & Scope

European Museum Technology recently completed a custom-built display case for The Whisky Thief, an establishment within Sydney’s Prefecture 48. Known for its focus on rare whiskies and modern cocktails, the venue draws inspiration from the cultural richness of Japan.

The project brief requested a specialised showcase for one of eight Golden Skateboards from the Azuki NFT Collection. This physical-digital collectable reflects the evolving intersection of art, culture, and ownership. Located above the entry staircase and next to the main whiskey bar, the installation required a custom structural design to maximise visibility from both entry points and the main seating area, establishing the artwork as a dynamic focal point in the venue.

Dual-Sided Spatial Integration

Dual-Sided Spatial Integration

EMT engineered the display case to fit seamlessly into the complex architectural junction above the entry stairwell. This elevated placement provides dual-sided engagement, allowing patrons to view the artwork both when ascending the staircase and from within the bar space. The structural housing utilises museum-grade materials and precise mounting frames to ensure complete physical security in a high-traffic hospitality environment.

Automated Rotation & Targeted Illumination

To highlight the detailed surface crafting of the golden skateboard, EMT integrated a continuous rotating mechanism within the internal support assembly. The motor system smoothly spins the artwork, enabling uninterrupted 360-degree viewing. Specialised internal lighting illuminates the reflective metallic finish as it rotates, accentuating the physical contours of the deck while maintaining museum-grade display standards.
