Background & Scope
Museums and galleries regularly rotate temporary exhibitions, requiring adaptable technical processes to preserve bespoke display infrastructure for prospective configurations. Following the conclusion of the temporary Chanel exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, European Museum Technology managed the methodical dismantling of the exhibition’s oversized museum showcases.
To support sustainable lifecycle management across gallery spaces, the project demanded rigorous handling procedures. The technical team systematically removed the heavy-format glass elements from the gallery floor, catalogued each component, and transferred the glass to on-site storage without compromising structural integrity or surface finish.


Specialised Handling & Showcase Deinstallation
Dismantling oversized museum showcase systems requires specialised mechanical apparatus and strict physical controls to manage heavy glass safely. European Museum Technology deployed specialised Quattrolifts glass handling equipment to disengage, lift, and lower each panel from the temporary exhibition architecture without imparting mechanical stress to the material.
Cataloguing & Secure On-Site Storage
Following deinstallation from the temporary exhibition space, the EMT systematically catalogued each architectural glass panel to maintain accurate inventory records for future gallery installations.
Utilising Quattrolifts equipment to manoeuvre the large glass panels through restricted gallery passages, EMT relocated and secured the components within designated storage facilities at the National Gallery of Victoria, preserving the showcase infrastructure for prospective exhibition layouts.
