European Museum Technology

Leonardo da Vinci’s Early Mona Lisa represents one of his earliest interpretations of the iconic Mona Lisa, completed 18 years before the Louvre masterpiece. As a historically significant artwork, its preservation and display required innovative solutions to ensure safety, mobility, and controlled environmental conditions.

European Museum Technology (EMT) was commissioned to undertake two critical tasks. The first involved designing and fabricating a state-of-the-art travel case. This bespoke solution featured GPS tracking for real-time location monitoring and atmospheric pressure control to protect the painting during transit. The case was engineered to be lightweight and single-handedly transportable, ensuring practical use by couriers and art handlers.

The second challenge required EMT to create a dismantle-able display case for exhibitions. This complex design incorporated bulletproof glass for security and an active environmental control system to maintain stable temperature and humidity. Additionally, the case included a remote control to manage climate conditions and lighting, allowing curators to adapt settings for specific exhibition requirements.

By combining technical precision with aesthetic sensitivity, EMT delivered solutions that preserved the Early Mona Lisa while enabling safe international travel and optimal display conditions.
